South Africa imports soya lecithin almost exclusively from China. Argentina is the world's largest soybean processor, with a massive lecithin export capacity and zero current presence in the SA market. JMR is building that route.
SOURCE THIS INGREDIENTChina supplies the majority of SA's soya lecithin needs. Argentina's Rosario crushing corridor processes over 40 million tonnes of soybeans annually, producing food grade lecithin at scale with full export infrastructure.
The import tariff on lecithin is FREE under HS 2923.90, meaning there is no cost barrier to switching origin. The opportunity is structural and underexplored.
JMR is actively developing the Argentina-to-SA lecithin route, working with certified producers in the Rosario soy complex. This is a live sourcing project, not a future ambition.
